چکیده

Soil stiffness constants govern the soil sinkage and the pressure-sinkage behaviour of the soil under load. To determine soil stiffness constants in Upadhyaya model under field conditions, a field reflecting general character of an agricultural soil was selected and multiplate penetration tests were conducted. The soil stiffness constants in Upadhyaya model were determined from five sets of soil pressure-sinkage tests using five rectangular plates that have the same contact area and different aspect ratio. The determined soil stiffness constants (k , k and n) for the experimental site were 222.3 kPa, 3635 kPa/m and 0.472, respectively. Although 1 2 for the risk of using the soil stiffness constants determined with tests that use only two plates, five different plates were used in this study, assessment of Upadhyaya model in predicting soil pressure-sinkage behaviour under field conditions is necessary before the model can be recommended for wider use.

Determination of constant coefficients of Bourgoyne and Young drilling rate model using a novel evolutionary algorithm

Achieving minimum cost and time in reservoir drilling requires evaluating the effects of the drilling parameters on the penetration rate and constructing a drilling rate estimator model. Several drilling rate models have been presented using the drilling parameters. Among these, the Bourgoyne and Young (BY) model is widely utilized in order to estimate the penetration rate. This model relates s...

Comparison and Improvement of the Existing Cone Penetration Test Results: Shear Wave Velocity Correlations for Hungarian Soils

Due to the introduction of Eurocode 8, the structural design for seismic and dynamic effects has become more significant in Hungary. This has emphasized the need for more effort to describe the behavior of structures under these conditions. Soil conditions have a significant effect on the response of structures by modifying the stiffness and damping of the soil-structural system and by modifyin...

Application of Cavity Expansion Theory in Predicting Centrifuge Cone Penetration Resistance

In this paper, a simple model for the prediction of centrifuge cone penetration tip resistance in sand is presented. The proposed method, which relates the tip resistance to the pressure to expand a spherical cavity, refines and simplifies Greeuw’s original equations. The method assumed the failure mode of a spherical cavity expansion pressure given as a function of shear stiffness, angle of fr...

Reinforced Soil Wall Analysis under Working Stress Conditions Using a Two Phase Model with the Introduction of a New Design Parameter

A previously introduced two phase model was used to assess its capability in predicting the behavior of reinforced soil walls under working stress conditions. The two phase model is a homogenization method based on the virtual work theorem. The reinforced soil medium is considered as the superposition of two continuous phases, the reinforcement and matrix phases that interact within the medium....

Evaluation and Determination of the Coefficients of Infiltration Models in Marvdasht Region, Fars Province

Infiltration process plays an important role in water cycle of the nature. Conducting field experiments is necessary to determine the coefficients of infiltration equations due to the dependence of these coefficients to the soil type, soil surface conditions and the amount of initial soil moisture content. This study has been carried out in a field located in Islamic Azad University, Marvdasht ...
